My additional way

My data, manners and idea is described here.

Equipments

  • Enlarger:  Lucky 450M-C, Lucky 90M-S (when I was a student), and LPL C7700 (mine).
  • Enlargement lens:  EL-NIKKOR 105mm F5.6
  • Easel mask:  LPL universal easel
  • Tweezers:  Made by ISE of stainless steel.
  • "Foggy" soft focus filter made by Kenko.

Processing chemicals

  • Developer:  Kodak Dektol developer (1:3)
  • Stop bath:  water or 1.5% acetic acid solution.
  • Fixer:  Fuji super fujifix.
  • Hypo-clearing solution:  Fuji QW

Photographic paper

  • Ilford Multigrade FB
  • Oriental New Seagull G ,grade 2

My favorite tone is a little warm.   I selected ilford maltigrade fb paper and Kodak Dektol developer (1:3) to obtain the tone.   Using thin developer is obtained warm tone compare with using strong developer. Other methods of it are decrease hydroquinone and add potassium bromide in a developer.  When I attach importance to tone reproduction, I choose oriental new seagull G2 paper with Kodak Plus-x pan film.   Because the feature of ilford maltigrade fb paper with Kodak Plus-x pan film is not matched.

I usually use diffusion-type enlarger, lucky (Fujimoto) 450M-C and LPL C7700.   Because I obtain lower contrast image for there.   In other words, film development time is longer than use with other type enlarger.   Film development time is longer, the contrast is stronger.   My development speed is fast, the contrast is tended toward strong.

"Foggy" soft focus filter is used for hide tastes of tone of a image.

Why do you take a frame widely?

LPL universal easel mask is able to make large width frame. Some reasons of it are following:

  1. Handling area in process.
  2. Prevent pollution control by chemical.
  3. Keep flat level while matting and flaming.

1. Prints are conserved for giving way of paper and finger-prints.

2. In the long term, the stein begins from the edge of the paper because this parts are remained chemicals.   Cut the edge after drying, cut remained chemicals too, the probability of beginning stein is decreased.

3. When prints are being over-matting, the area that sandwiched between boards are large, flat level is keeping.
